The April Issue.
Building a cohesive wardrobe, easy updates for spring and the brands currently on my radar.
Whenever I’ve been away for a while, it takes me a week or so to settle back into my wardrobe. Dressing for the Vietnam heat didn’t require much thought- I’ve lived out of a suitcase, wearing linen co-ords and flip-flops for the past three weeks, so returning home has made me overthink getting dressed. A change of season can also have me second-guessing my style. I’m the worst for jumping ahead and wearing an outfit inappropriate for the temperature. I get over-excited for spring outfits but need to remember that London is in no rush to warm up. Nothing makes me dislike my look more, no matter what I’m wearing, if I feel cold and uncomfortable. (A reminder to myself to check the weather forecast before leaving home).
When I feel a little lost with my style, I revert back to what I feel my best in, keep it simple, and build from there. It’s also a reminder when I’m adding to my wardrobe to really focus on those cohesive pieces. Items that fit together well, that I can layer. A jacket I can throw on over loungewear, a dress or denim. Trousers that I can pair with trainers and a tee or heels and a silk shirt. Pieces that work well for a casual weekend but can also be easily dressed up. I don’t want a separate work wardrobe, going-out wardrobe and off-duty wardrobe; I want it to all fit together like a puzzle, so whatever I’m doing, I feel like myself in what I’m wearing. Clothes are my armour, so I need them to resonate with how I want to show up every day- effortless and at ease, plus elevated. If my options are disjointed with no clear connection, my style reflects that.
